Amazon isn’t the only market for ebooks. Look into Smashwords.
Book tours of the virtual kind are a great means of publicity. Get one organized for your books.
Cover design is crucial. Get help if you’re not much of an artist yourself. Naff covers will discourage buyers.
Don’t get disheartened. Believe in yourself and keep writing.
Edit your work properly. Silly mistakes antagonize readers. Hire a pro to help, like me! :-)
Facebook remains the most popular of the various social media. Even if you’re not much of a fan, give it a go and find friends and readers.
Goodreads is a must for all authors. Join up if you haven’t already.
Help other indies and they’ll help you.
Influence will win you readers. Become an expert by contributing to forums and commenting on writing and book blogs.
Jump in. Don’t sit on the sidelines, write, self-publish, join in forums and put yourself and your books out there.
Loyalty from your readers is very important. Treat them well and give them great books to read. Build up relationships using social media and your blog.
Marketing is hard work, but do a little every day. Send some Tweets, share a photo on Facebook, comment on a blog, pin something on Pinterest, ask for a review ... just do something on a daily basis.
Never give up.
Organize yourself and your writing schedule.
Promote, promote, promote!
Quality rather than quantity is what’s important. Produce top quality writing and readers will want more.
Review every book you read this year and post it in as many places as you can.
Support your fellow indies and they’ll support you.
Tweet for all your worth - make friends and find readers.
Understand your market. Research your genre and your audience.
Vary your vocabulary - use a thesaurus. Make your writing interesting.
Write every day.
